Alright

So, Lots has happened again, and sorry to be so late with updating lately...  In the last post, I told you that Thena has shoes now, well, she still has them YAY. We were unsure if she would keep them on due to the non fully healed abcsess. But she DID keep them, so that is a step forward. The two steps back? She now has a HUGE gash under her armpit... okay, its not a gash, but its very raw. Why? We don't know. It wasn't there a week ago. So we are guessing its from western. The girth might have rubbed a bit and then it just spread down because her skin is so sensitive. Good news is she is still ride able... though not the smoothest ride due to the rub. I am now riding her english (YAY) at a walk trot canter. Her canter is very....... interesting to say the least.. But such is life, she will learn soon. Two days ago, we worked for an hour at a walk just trying to get a consistant headset, and we got it eventually! Then the barn owners wife came into the barn to ride a bit and said "alright im going on a trail ride" and I wanted Thena out and adventuring, sooooooo, We went with. Now you must be thinking "OH MY GODS ARE YOU NUTS" Since I was in an english saddle with a very unpredictable OTTB.... but she actually did AMAZING (better then my 7 year old QH would have) She only spooked once, and that was at something blowing on a building. She doesn't like the feel of squishy ground such as mud or water, but,  there was a dip in the ground full of water that we had to cross, so the other horse went first and Thena thought "Well.. .if he did it, i guess I have to.." and she slowly crept up to it, put two feet into the water, hunched her butt under her and lauched herself over the water! Then we were okay and she calmed down. Yesterday I went on the same trail, but this time with BENTLEY!!!! Opies mom rode him, and I rode Thena (Who was now the "brave leader") and he did just as good (he didn't mind the water as much as Thena). Thena actually walked semi calmy through the water this time, so I think shes slightly over the "OMG ITS GUNNA EAT ME" deal.

Yesterday as well before riding Thena, at 9am, I went on a two and a half hour trail ride about a half hour away. The barn owner, his wife and I drove a half hour away to a trail park that allows horses and rode for about two and a half hours. I took Moosie and she did AWESOME. Never spooked just shied sideways at ONE thing because the barn owners wife said "Oh, shes doing really well and not spooking at anything" so of course, my mare just had to act like she was spooking.... damn mare. Love her to bits though, she did so good. She wanted to rush back to the trailer but she still did awesome. So that was that morning. ^_^ More adventures and tales later, gotta go to work now (Ew. I know... )

And We're Off....

Alright. So. The bad news.... I just spent more money. The good news? Thena has shoes! Meaning less wear and tear on her hooves. She is doing great now! Two days ago was the first time I ever got on her. Seen on the right. We did walk trot, and she did awesome! She was so well behaved it was crazy. Later on that day with Opies mom I got on her again (No halter under her because I didn't have someone walk me) And walk, trot, and cantered her!!! She is a little slow with the whole cantering thing, and is always lagging, but that will be fixed up soon.

Yesterday we were at the barn again, Opies mom came over and we drove out together. When we got there, we waited because the shoer was going to be out in just a little bit (or so we thought)... after about an hour of waiting he showed up and we got front shoes on Thena, and full shoes on Bentley. Bentley behaved very well, and Thena didn't do too bad. Around the end she got bored and didn't want to stand but once I stood there and held her halter she calmed right down again. About an hour after that (Due to Opie ripping his blanket and being brought in to be worked then going loco on the lunge line...) we got the two of them out again and started grooming, saddling and lunging. Bentley didn't know how to canter on the lunge, and Opies mom FINALLY got him to do it both ways!!! Thena kinda taught herself because she had SO much pent up energy she just kinda went. hahaha, so She canters very well. After a little while, we both got on and just as we were warming up, Rileys mom showed up for a visit! (Not unexpected of course). After a little while, I finally cantered again on Thena, (this time with Spurs) And she was not nearly as laggy, though she still didn't want to break into it (We think she was a trotter, not a racer!) That girl has the LONGEST and FASTEST trot I have ever known. The picture below has us JUST getting into the canter, and as you can see, she does NOT want to go into it. SIlly girl....
All in all, a very nice two days, and I am going out again today! Sadly I am not off work, so I need to leave early, meaning no chance to work with my other baby girl Moosie, but Sunday for sure!
Ta Ta for now!

Broke?

I would say so. I have no money. I don't know what I am thinking having two horses... Had I not gone to Midwest horse fair, I think I would have been fine money wise.... but because of midwest... I don't have enough money right now. I won't be able to make board on ONE horse, let alone two for this month. Will I try? Fuck yes.  I will try my goddamned hardest to pay off what I need. I love them both.

As for an update, Thena is walking almost 100 percent better, so I'm looking forward to the end of the week. I'm not going to get the xrays done on her. OH I forgot to mention that I ended up having the vet out two days ago. The abcsess was bleeding and I'm not used to that so I had her out and she said that it was just an abcsess and that She should be fine. If shes not better by monday (Which she is thankfully) to get xrays on her hoof so that we can see if it affected any soft tissues. Also, I will be getting shoes on her hopefully by the end of the week (YAY More money I don't have!)

Moosie is half Body clipped...... haha Im trying to get her used to the clippers so I started body clipping her. It doesn't look horrid..... Just kinda funny since its only half of one side at the moment. I let her loose in the indoor yesterday and She rolled like there was no tomorrow (mind you shes been outside 24/7 rolling in mud as well) so I had a dirty pony again. But oh well. Love her anyway.

Late, I know

So I know this post is like 4 days late but oh well... ALOT has happened since the last post, such as my new mare? (Yes... MY new mare, I AM keeping her for now, more on that later) Yeah.... Shes dead lame. Abcsess in her right front. YAY ME. -.- So I'm dealing with that by wraping it every morning and every night, soaking it in the morning and then putting a dry one on at night. Shes already walking WAY better after two days, Hopefully once her feet get a little better I can get shoes on her and raise her heels a little bit because right now shes VERY flat footed =/ Not good. Shes walking on her frog, and thats no good at all...

Now, for the fact that she is mine. I just kinda took her over.... Me and Opies mom were talking and She didn't have time to work with both the Thoroghbreds, and I of course said "Oh well, take them both anyway" and I ended up working with the mare, AKA, Thena. After about 3 days of working with her, IT was almost certian that I would keep her. After midwest horse fair and the fact that she now has this abcsess, I am more certian that she is mine because she just clicks with me... She really does.

Moosie has been in due to bad weather... she is NOT likin it. I let her loose in the indoor this morning ans she just bolted around for about 10 minutes....

More later!

Day Two and More!

Alright, our second work out went very well, Thena let me catch her in the pasture with out a chase (Progress!!!) and walked very nicely back to the barn with me (Even more progress!!!!). She stood quietly in the cross ties again and we finally decided what happened to her leg. (She has an indent in her left flank) and we figured she got kicked in the pasture of got tangled up and sliced herself, all the way to the bone since the muscle there is completely gone. After we tacked up we brought them both into the arena (Bentley did very good as well. Was a bit more jittery in the cross ties but nice and calm in the arena, just opposite of Thena hahaha, Shes all calm on the cross ties but once you go to work her shes SO hot. She thinks she an arab, head up and tail in the air. We have said she looks like a Gazelle o.O' But after about 10 minutes of fighting me and the rope halter (A god send) She finally calmed down and trotted in some NICE lunging circles. I was very proud. After about 40 minutes of lunging, we De-spooked them, throwing tarps, balls, and flags at them. Thena didn't look twice at any of them, Bentley was terrified of the flag. haha. After that they did very good. We put them back outside, and Thena was a little naughty trying to rush me back to the pasture. Naughty girl.... Then work.

After work, Opies mom came over (Also Bentleys mom now!) and we hung out because the next day was Friday AKA Midwest horse fair!!!!! That is where I am updating from. The hotel. We have bought quite a few things that I will list later.

Oh yeah....

Alright Alright, I know I'm a bad mommy for not updating! Alright, well as in my last post, Nothing was new really to report on Moosie. Now? Ohhhh Boy...... Well, for one, She is no longer lame. So YAY!!!! I have ridden her 3 times since her move to her new barn. She settled in quite well, which I wasn't really scared of. She Isn't to hard to please. She is now living on out door board and she seems to be a bit more loving. I've ridden her english twice, and western once. She looks SOOOOO Cute english!!! We rode last night in a complete english getup, Bridle and everything, and OMG does she look adorable in that english headstall!!! No pictures of it yet because it was really dark outside by the time we got to ride (We didn't want to ride in the indoor, we like riding outside. and We includes Opies Mom!) All we did was trot, and alot of it hahaha, she was all sweaty (Shes so out of shape!!). We are slowly getting that english headset! I'm so proud of my girl!

But honestly, not as proud of my Moosie as I am of Bentley and Thena.... But don't tell her that! I'm not sure if I mentioned in my last post that Opies mom was getting not one, but TWO Off the Track TB's.... A 17+hh Gelding, and a 15.3ish hh mare...? Well, The gelding has been renamed Bentley, and the mare Thena. As soon as I saw them, it was freakin love. They are just darlings and though nervous in their new home, they are just so sweet. They are tattooed, and we will be looking them up pretty soon. I found that out because once they were settled in yesterday, we went out to catch them and we groomed them up, tacked them with our english stuff (SOOOOO Glad I bought an english saddle....) and closed both doors, and lunged them. Bentley did much better then little miss Thena, but she is also the "Hot" one. She is very nervous, very jittery. You make her do anything she doesn't want to, and she stands there and shakes. Poor Girl =/ But I finally did get her to calm down a little and just trot on the lunge with out to much trouble. Then, of course I praised her for being so good, and noticed a little bit of blood on her lips and started freaking out, well since she is only 4, she is still losing her baby teeth!!! haha I freaked out at first thinking she bonked herself in the trailer and then bit down wrong while working, but shes perfectly fine. but as I was checking the tooth, I found her tattoo! I was so excited. We didn't think they were. Anyway! Today we are going to be working ALOT in the round pen. She needs to learn to just relax. You might notice that I am talking ALOT about little miss Thena... Well.. That is because she is basically mine.... I will be either buying or leasing her off Opies mom pretty soon IF Thena works out as a good sound horse. Yes, I have Moosie, but she is no longer a challenge for me =( I like a challenge and I like to do something other than just barrels, hence the english riding of Moosie haha. I know she will never be a GOOD English horse, So I am hoping Thena works out. They also have no ground manners... But that is quite typical of an OTTB, So Rope halters are a godsend. We don't want to use chains because then they will never respect the halter, just the chain.... and though the same could be said of a rope halter, at least this way you can have the regular halter on as well and have two lead ropes, like I did last night. and she responded really well.

Todays Goal? Get a few round pen pictures of Thena, and make sure she starts to calm down while working and not get so nervous. (and catch her in the pasture with out issue...)

Pictures up tonight!! Promise!!

Sadly

Nothing to new to report. Just been super busy to get out and see Moosie.. I know that this weekend she moves to her new home (YAY) and so I will be able to see her more often and ride her more often then I am now which is always awesome. Our First barrel race is in May, and our first practice run is May 1st. Can't wait. I know my girl is gunna kick some Booty.

One thing I can say is that I went as saw "Strategically Dun" aka Riley Pants and he was Awesome. Got to ride him a little bit and holy hell does he sweat hahah too cute. Little off balance still but hes a baby so I guess it doesn't matter ^_^ Can't wait to see him hit the show ring.

Also saw Opie! He was, as always, amazing. Got to get on while His mom was lunging him and had a bit of a balance lesson of my own since I have lost me "Seat" riding western for so long. I used to be able to be glued to a horses back but now UGH its bad... then I got to work him a bit after his mom got done riding, worked a bit on neck reining. Haha, as his mom has stated, "I just don't have the balls to do it yet" But She will, because starting soon, I'm gunna make her. She can one up alot of people in his age group if she can already one hand him!! We will see we will see.... Anyway, after that, the three of us (Myself, Opies mom, and Rileys mom) Went to Burger King and talked about what baby Opies mom gets after I breed Moosie (In like 4 years) She wants to have the first baby, I told her she can havethe baby from her stud (meaning what ever stud she picks is the baby she gets) as long as I approve the stud... (And no, Im not breeding her to Opies dad!!!)

Thats all to report!

. . . Yeah....

Alright, So today started out okay ish.... didn't really want to go to work but I'm glad I did, I got to sell a Puppy today, making me the highest seller so far right now. Got a little sick at work but I won't go into that, I'm fine now.

After a slightly good day at work, I headed out to see my beast! Moosie!!! I was all excited to ride her today. I made sure I had my saddle (We are in the process of moving her, so I have to have the saddle in my car) and all my tack. I got there, got her out of her stall (Since it was like 730pm by this point) and what do I find? -.- Off on her right front. I start freaking out, after having two horses with leg problems, ANY sign of something no matter how small sets off alarms in my head. So I have my trainer look at her for me and she thinks its just a bruise on the underside of her hoof... We shall see, though it IS what it is looking like at the moment. So I took her on the nice soft sand and was gunna lunge her for 10 or 15 minutes max, just to get a little energy out of her.... That turned into a 30 minute work out because SOMEONE didn't want to reverse on the lunge line after trotting... After that she was of course a hot mess and needed a cool out time, so I hopped on her bareback and we walked the arena a few times to cool her down.

Then I found the COOLEST thing ever about my horse.... It was REALLY dark outside and I didn't want to have to walk with my saddle all the way back to my car... So.. I took a risk and walked to my car, Moosie had been by it many times with me opening and closing doors, so I wasnt worried about that. I started the car, she was perfectlly fine with that and so I proceeded to put it in drive and start to drive up the drive way toward the barn where her stall is.... and she followed along like a puppy following a ball. She had no issues what so ever being next to my car while it was running. she did SOOO good, I was soooo happy with her. I then put her away and drove home

Now the best part of my day(not really -.-) I had called my sister to see if she wanted to hang out, and she did so she came to pick me up... about 10 minutes into us hanging out, we were turning around to head back toward where we had to be in about 20 minutes.... And we were driving down the road, at speedlimit, there was a green light for US, and BAM -.- some idiot turns out in front of us from the intersection, making a right hand turn onto our street cutting us off and in turn, making us hit the side of their car. So I spent the next hour sitting in a parking lot of a mexican resturaunt... We called the cops as soon as it happened and they didn't get there until 30 minutes AFTER we called because of a shift change... A FREAKING SHIFT CHANGE. I mean REALLY are you THAT stupid? But anyway.... things got cleared up -.- My sisters car is in really bad shape.. not totaled but we can't open the passenger side door... and now I'm home... -.- Good night world.

Bad Day...

So, I did not get a chance to see Moosie yesterday (April 2nd) Due to not feeling well all day, and then having to work from 230 until 930 pm... Not fun. Even more not fun when you have a POUNDING Headache that everytime you turn around, you get dizzy.. Stupid soda cravings. I have gone on a semi diet and for the past 2 days have not had ANY soda what so ever..... It is painful.. I have craved it for a while now.. and I think the headache yesterday was part of it. Oh well.... at least I'll lose a few pounds. Other then that, it was an OK day... Sales sucked and I don't think I made it into bounus.. which SUCKS because I will be the only one NOT in Bounus this week... meaning I am the low man, aka, if they decide to fire someone, I'm first to go. Life is sucky... Today so far seems better.. No headache, and I feel OK other then the fact that I woke up at 5am with leg pain and a little bit of upper chest pain. Sigh. Oh well. At least my Puppies are here to keep me company, as well as my two Rats. ^_^ Gotta love those little buggers. Working today from Noon till 6:30. It will still be light out so I get to go see Moosie. I will Update after that!

Very Proud

Seeing as I am "Livin In Fast Forward" aka Opie's Aunt, I was VERY proud of him today!! More on that in a few. I drove out to see Moosie like always, hoping that my trainer hadn't put the horses outside just yet, and thankfully, she hadn't so it was nice and easy to catch her lol she was just in her stall. With my Rope halter and lead in hand, I walked into the stall and she looked at me like "Moooooom...... WHY are you here so EARLY.... sigh..." And she put her head down and nuzzled against me as I put on her halter. We have been working very hard on lunging since SOMEONE has some issues with it... and its not me.

Moosie In: "EXCUSE ME..... Its not my fault speed horses aren't suppose to lunge normally. I just wana run and you makee me go in a circle."

Sigh... Yes.. Yes I do because thats what lunging is.... anyway. I spent about 15 minutes grooming her and picking out her feet REALLY good. She was a little sore when I took her out of her stall so I figured she might have a rock or somethin... Nothing that I saw... So I take her over to the indoor and start to lunge her and shes gimping... Great. I check ALL over her fronts... Nothing.. Her back left was a little stocked up, but not hot. So I figured she just was a bit stocked up in back from being in her stall overnight (Hence why I'm putting her on outdoor board starting on the 10th.) and I picked up her fronts again, and picked out a little bit more dirt, found a small pebble MAYBE the size of a pencil eraser (Width wise)... But anyway... I asked my trainer to watch her, and lo and behold, my mare was magically sound -.- April fools to me eh? She trotted out like a dream and cantered like a champ... Apparently my mare is SO tenderfooted that that ittybitty pebble was KILLING her.. -.- Puhlease.. Well after about 30 minutes of lunging, it was time to groom her up, give her some cookies and head over to See Opie!!!

Alright, now the reason I am SUCH a proud Aunt is because I got to ride Opie today and he did AMAZING. Kathryn had already did a bit of work on him, and offered to let me ride for a bit, so I did. (after a few teasing words of course) and I got on, and we worked a little bit on lead changes, and then neck reining. THIS is why I was so proud of him. He has never really understood the whole neckrein one handed thing... and today he was SOOO Good!!! We walked, joged, and loped ALL one handed!!! It was only rail work but still he was listening!! We even reversed!!! He stil has an issue of when you say "Good boy" he stops dead in is tracks thinking he is done BUT thats okay... we can still work on it!

All in all, a GREAT morning... Until it rained....

Big D

Dallas, aka Big D, is my barn owners sale horse who he let me ride today! He is a 15.2(ish) Black gelding with a stripe. A little bit on the lean side, but very 'Go'-y.  I was standing at the side of the ring and he hopped off Big D and asked if I wanted to ride. I said sure and hopped on. Now remember people, the barn owner is like... a full foot and a half taller then me, if not more. So his stirups were as high as they could go, and they STILL were not short enough for me to really get my leg into position. It was QUITE funny. So off I went, hardly any grip on my feet and feeling slightly off balance. Thankfully Big D was a good by and listened very well for me. He has a pretty BIG stride for his size and though the barn owner wants to train him for a western pleasure horse, he feels MUCH more like a hunter under saddle horse. Very long and flowy. So trying to get him to go slowslowslow was quite the challenge. Normally, the barn owner would turn him in a small circle to slow him down if he got to fast... well I tried that and almost fell off, so I had to settle with the old "Hold"..."Release" meathod which seemed to work quite well for him actuallly and he was going really nice and slow for me.

I know that he is a baby, and was VERY proud of him for listening to me even though I might have been a little off since I felt off balanced. He could have easily taken advantage of me and he didn't which shows he has a really good head on him. He IS for sale, and I do hope to ride him at least once more before he is sold. He is quite the boy, that is for sure.

In other news, I saw "Livin In Fast Forward" Today, and MAN is he doing great!!! Can't wait to see that boy hit the show ring!!

First Post

As the title states, this is our first post ^_^ This blog is going to be a nice little log of how me and Moosie are getting along now that we are moving barns. While she was doing good at her previous barn, I just did not have the time that she needed to be a happy horse. Now with the new barn, I am out much more often and am giving her the time she needs to behave and pay attention to me. There will also be side posts about training and such of other horses, such as todays post! Make sure to read it! Big D was awesome for me.
